The small terrain behind this townhouse was completely overbuild with annexes. Although we would like some outdoor space, we need all the square meters. The disadvantage of very high walls between us and the neighbors turns out to be a huge asset: we can make an enclosed roof terrace. At the end of the parcel, floating concrete steps lead to the terrace. This staircase is our first patio.
Directly behind the main building we get some sunlight in the morning: here we plan a patio with a heightened floor, so that it feels less enclosed. The openness is accentuated by sliding windows that open in a corner of the patio.
The cooking in the kitchen happens at the same level of the patio: the concrete floor becomes a concrete countertop.
By lifting the patio, we get extra storage space under it. These cabinets are finished with steel.
