Roxbury Memory Trail
DP+ developed a master plan for the Roxbury Memory Trail project, which began in 2012, comes out of a collaboration between community residents, designers, city and state leaders, local businesses, developers, historians and archivists. The concept of this trail is to develop and celebrate the unique identity of the area - reflected in the culture, history, people, stories and places in the neighborhood. Local artists have been engaged in the design and creation of the art pieces and markers that will mark over 135 historical sites along the memory trail. The site markers will identify and showcase the stories of people and places that celebrate the identity of the Roxbury community.
Phasing will include developing the visual vocabulary for the trail to include landscape materials, lighting, furniture, wayfinding, transit options and integration of a digital platform, accessed via smartphones. Art-centered place-making nodes along the trail will serve as orientation and strengthen wayfinding along the trail.
This project is being led by Grove Hall Neighborhood Development Corporation with Dudley Square Main Streets; Greater Grove Hall Main Streets; The National Center of Afro American Artists; and Earthos Institute.
