This project embodies a simple aspiration: To design a cozy and tranquil cabin for leisure in the lush region of Mazandaran; a cabin that can react to and adapt to its changing environment.
Initially, we conceived the hut as a small cube and then divided it into two parts to separate the main functions:
1. The living area
2. The service area
Both of these functions are placed on a single platform and are connected to each other and to the surrounding nature by a semi-open space. This semi-open area, created by a large roof placed over the project, allows the cottage to be used in various seasons.
In this project, we decided to design a dynamic and movable roof instead of a static, passive one. It rotates around an axis, thereby influencing the organization of the project's spaces. This roof acts like a "connect-disconnect" switch:
• When the roof is closed, the semi-open space below is fully activated and becomes one with its surroundings. In this state, the roof layer is dormant, and access to it is unavailable.
• When the roof is open, the space below creates a new boundary and privacy with the outside. In this state, the roof becomes active and serves as a balcony overlooking the surroundings. Access to the roof is provided by stairs located on the roof itself. This way, the access stairs only become active when the roof is in use.
This project is designing a roof that gives a new character to a residence.
