Rosewood Gardens, a 100 percent affordable senior housing development pursuing LEED certification, is located directly adjacent to the existing Rosewood Methodist Church, a Gothic revival church built in 1926. The building is comprised of 54 one-bedroom dwelling units in 5 stories, a learning center, library, laundry rooms, a central landscaped courtyard, private “porches” and balconies and a large community center at street level, continuing the pedestrian street fabric along Rosewood Avenue. A large open space and “promenade” visually joins the two sites while creating a lushly landscaped buffer between the two building masses. The new building draws inspiration from the existing church architecture and materials, reinterpreted in a contemporary manner. Rooftop solar panels provide on-site energy generation for common lighting and water heating.
