The Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario is a 5,700 seat multi-use arena completed in 2008. This venue has an on-site restaurant with a 300-person capacity, 32 private suites and four group suites overlooking the event floor.
The arena is home to the OHL’s Kingston Frontenac Hockey Club, providing locker rooms and training facilities as well as a retail outlet for Frontenacs apparel and gear. The K-Rock Centre faced challenges similar to larger spectator arenas in accommodating the needs of its community’s sports needs when not accommodating larger spectator events. Specific design considerations were given to meet these challenges, including keeping the venue and its surrounding area lively and vibrant during both events and non-event times; flexibility of use; ease of circulation and flow; maximizing revenue opportunities; designing the facility for operational efficiencies; separating public and athlete zones in a seamless and efficient manner; understanding the most effective long span structural solutions; and providing for both elite athletes and the more casual public user within the same facility. Consecutively recognized for its excellence as a multi-use arena, the K-Rock Centre is LEED Silver certified and is one of the first facilities of its kind to receive this designation.
