As part of a redesign of the Rod Kelley Elementary School Campus, the new Library anchors the future fourth and fifth grade community. The Library design harkens back to the “cabinet of curiosities,” tapping into the sense of mystery that books can bring to children. The vernacular barn, oriented to the site grid is merged with the modern box, oriented to site views, finding dynamism at the intersection. The box is eroded to establish a variety of reading spaces and places for discovery, while the barn provides a grand reading room. Two book walls dissect the space, forming storage, windows, and inhabitation. In this library, both the books and the children play an equally important role.
