Rocky Pines Community Centre is on Lower Nicola Indian Band land, near a small community of 100 homes, located in a pine forest with views of the mountains and surrounding valley. The building is designed to serve as a multi-functional space that hosts a variety of community events such as dinners, presentations, workshops and movie nights. The Community Centre also comprises a library, convenience store, meeting room, kitchen and coin-operated laundry.
The building is constructed using mass timber elements such as glue-laminated beams/purlins and has a nail laminated timber roof deck. Local pine wood is used throughout for interior wood cladding, ceilings, doors and trims. Large wood frame windows allow for ample daylight and natural ventilation. The project's compact design offers a small environmental footprint while meeting the needs of Rocky Pines community members.
