The Rockford Register Star defines a prominent place in the City's center, and its requirement to add a 5-story press hall needed to enhance rather that detract from that position. The resultant design blends with an existing art deco News Tower through complementary materials and a window system that transitions from the existing to the addition. Also, the reuse of decorative limestone elements from the original building further link the addition to the original building.
The press addition is a machine for a machine, designed with precision to provide the temperature and humidity controlled environment required for the 585 ton press. It's 8' thick foundation absorbs the constant vibration of the massive printing press. It's large glass windows showcase the activity within.
