AIA Florida Merit Award of Excellence, New Work
Anchored by water and light, the Rockerman Residence opens to the park, canal, and horizon. A sweeping concrete wall gestures toward the bay, softened by wood louvers that filter shifting daylight. A home both intimate and expansive, rooted in nature and designed for experience. The existing lot was narrow, pressed between a cul-de-sac and the canal. Instead of seeing this as a restriction, we saw direction—a chance to let the site define the form. The house bends with its edge, transformed into a concrete wall that guides the home toward the bay. Inside, every inch of buildable area was optimized, opening interiors to light, air, and cross-ventilation. The wood louvers filter the Florida sun, adding comfort and efficiency without losing openness. The result is more than compliance. It is resilience expressed as beauty, and a family’s vision of life by the bay brought fully into light.
