The new environment friendly garment production facility of RMX Joss, Greater Noida, India has an efficient solar responsive design and anticipated low operational energy requirements. It has been built to the LEED green building rating system standards and is the first LEED Platinum rated Factory Building in North India.
The 1.3-acre site is located in a high-density industrial area. The site is surrounded by high energy consuming factories all around. The industrialization of the entire area is creat¬ing infrastructural demands that can no longer be met. Thus, it became imperative that the design of the factory propagate the principals of a sustainable and healthy workplace while keeping in view all the functional requirements.
Separated from the main road by a 25 m wide green belt, the site is a corner plot opened from three sides. This gives plenty of opportunity to get the maximum inlet of natural light inside the building. The project brief for this apparel-manufacturing unit was to design well-lit workspaces for around 500 workers. Apart from focused work, storage facility for the manufactured goods was also required.
Integrated design is a key factor in this building and all sustainability aspects have been brainstormed, optimized and integrated into the design at the concept stage thus ensuring a smooth design and construction process. The project aims to achieve 55~65 % operational energy savings annually over a conventional factory in the same region.
