Riviera restaurant is located on a pedestrian mall across from the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa. Originally built in 1869, the art-deco inspired building housed a bank for nearly a century and in 2015 it was taken over by Chefs Matthew Carmichael and Jordan Holley.
The design for the restaurant takes its cues from the existing space including its 25ft ceilings, marble travertine floors, wainscoting and large windows at the entrance. Linebox added onto this a fresh approach to layout and spatial experience by introducing a large open kitchen, and 80 ft long custom brass-top bar and moveable custom leather banquettes. The design celebrates the existing building by using shifting scales to amplify features like the high ceilings while keeping its guests grounded in relaxed and approachable seating.
