The 28-acre urban park is a year-round recreation facility that includes an indoor and outdoor swimming pool complex, multi-purpose structures for athletic and cultural activities, playing fields, court games and a running track, an amphitheater, two playgrounds, a restaurant with views up the river, picnic areas, and a riverfront promenade. Built on top of a water treatment park on the Hudson River, the park is connected to Harlem via two bridges.
A maintenance facility services the Riverbank State Park and other nearby state parks. The building includes shops for parks and police vehicle maintenance, a paint and machine shop, as well as storage rooms, a Zamboni room for the ice skating rink, break rooms, and locker rooms for the maintenance personnel. A greenhouse on the south side of the building provides space for the community garden and State Parks gardening programs. Riverbank has become one of the more visited state parks in New York City.
