River Oaks District is a sophisticated urban development located in the heart of one of Houston’s most vital commercial districts. The District combines high-end retail, office, restaurant, entertainment, commercial, dining, and residential programs into a unique, pedestrian-oriented environment which promotes urban activity at the ground level, creating a vibrant intimacy unmatched by other projects in the Houston area.
Spanning six blocks, the 14-acre site is a new model for urban and architectural place-making. The project enhances the surrounding urban landscape and neighborhoods. Intimately scaled blocks promote visibility and pedestrian circulation across the site while narrow streets with tree-lined sidewalks and generous architectural canopies frame the pedestrian experience. Each building is unique; a palette of local limestone, glass, and steel is employed throughout to evoke a contemporary design aesthetic while embracing local geological context. Subtle architectural features create memorable moments throughout the project. The undulating façade of the office building simultaneously reflects the large oaks below.
The success of River Oaks District reaches beyond the internal architectural and urban achievements of the project; it is physically transforming development patterns in Houston, a city historically organized by vehicular-prioritized organization and inward facing projects. River Oaks District is a proven catalyst for growth within the area. The urban triumphs have inspired adjacent projects to extend the District’s internal street organization and scale into new developments. Adjacent hotel, residential, and commercial developments are drawn to the area to connect to the urban vibrancy centralized in River Oaks District.
