Rising Sun Mill is a project which draws upon Bergmeyer’s skill and expertise in both architectural adaptive reuse and technologically-sophisticated interior design. Our scope of work included a full core-and-shell renovation for the building as well as space planning and interior design for the tenant.
For the base building, we designed new stairs, elevators, lobbies, toilets, and mechanical and electrical systems so that this U-shaped 100,000-sf former mill complex could be productively leased as commercial office space. We enclosed the open courtyard with a new atrium that linked floors and allowed the buildings to be occupied by a single tenant. For the roof of this new space, Bergmeyer designed a contemporary steel and glass structure that blends harmoniously with the mill’s historic character. In addition, the exterior of Rising Sun Mill was renovated in accordance with National Park Service guidelines for National Register properties.
