Riondolo is a project created with the help of institutions, friends and family.
It is the creation of a meditation and dialogue place, a micro-structure of 2.7m by 2.7m by 5.2m which can be assembled and moved, a structure entirely made of wood, a landmark in the natural environment, a place to be lived inside and outside, a route which winds into remote atmospheres of nature.
The structure, at best, will follow an itinerary in the Stelvio National Park with different positions in particularly evocative places, not necessarily on top of the mountains but rather at lower heights, and will be enriched by the thoughts and impressions of the visitors, so as to become a sort of journal.
Riondolo explores the sensory perception of nature and communicates with the symbolic and minimal language of the elements, like a filter which frames light and reality, which gives form and space in the search for balance between full and void spaces, vibrant harmonious compositions, telltale signs of imperceptible streams between lightness and gravity, all this conveyed by wood, the natural and lively matter ready to receive a slow and incontrovertible biological erosion.
Riondolo is the search of man for a more sincere and less deceptive contact with nature.
The aim is to lead the visitor to a moment of introspection in an isolated place, away from the usual everyday life, a place where one can experiment through the mind’s eye the imagination which lies in the deepest part of everyone’s consciousness, which goes beyond physical matter. It is at that moment that space becomes the metaphor of eternal seasons, experimental womb of mental spaces, windows of cherished remembrances and rediscovered sensations, of dream-like landscapes, of thick and luxuriant vegetation and endless deserts, peaceful condition of solitude. And then again the perception of the outside space, extracorporeal, rational, natural and of far-reaching.
The challenge consists in combining research and universal knowledge with the handcrafted skill of a local, family carpentry (Zanella Legnami 46°21’83” N.55’36:94” E)
The inspiration originates from the esoteric and mystical oriental research combined with the Western and of materic resolution, in the attempt of approaching such guides as Gurdjieff, Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi, Carlos Castaneda… the reading of Vedanta and of the Bible… the intuitive philosophy of Nietzche, Shopenauer’s rich imagination, Jung’s psychoanalysis, Neruda’s poetry, Calvino’s visions, Pirandello’s metaphor… The language of architecture witnesses the inspiration of the great masters of Architecture and comes from direct experience under the guidance of master and friend Sami Rintala The aim is to approach Zumthor’s poetics and the spatial presence of his creation’s atmospheres, to approach the geometry, the light, the poetry of material of Louis Khan, where future spaces seem to talk of fragments of buried truths; and finally the unparalleled organic fullness of Frank Lloyd Wright.
In pursuit of communicating universal values of human beeing and of its growth, Riondolo can be built in various parts of the world, can get in touch with different cultures, can be put up and disassembled, carried, looked after and lived.
For these reasons and led by a sentiment of sharing, we offer the possibility, of having the project and the instructions by contacting us, to put it up in exchange for a free offer.
What we hope is that this space can become for those who will build it a place of intimate and personal experience as far as one subjective perception of nature is concerned; a creation originated by the unique experience of the Sun, Luciferian greatness, meaningful experience in itself, a sort of symbol of human resistance, a primordial focal point, a real uncorrupted way of thinking about our place in the universe.
