The project involves the redevelopment of the connection axis between the Railway Station and Piazza Plebiscito in Gioia del Colle, transforming it into a cohesive, functional, and recognizable urban system. The intervention addresses the area's existing challenges, including traffic congestion, fragmented public spaces, insufficient parking facilities, and a general lack of consistency among urban elements. The proposal reorganizes vehicular circulation and parking areas, improving accessibility and safety while significantly expanding pedestrian spaces through the narrowing of roadways and the implementation of a “Zone 30” traffic-calming strategy. The use of durable and coherent materials, such as local limestone paving and permeable, noise-reducing road surfaces, enhances the continuity and overall quality of the public realm. The project also strengthens the environmental character of the area through the enhancement of tree-lined spaces, the renewal of public lighting systems, and the upgrading of stormwater collection and drainage infrastructure.
