This two-story DC rowhome renovation is making more out of less with a bright, airy open concept floor plan. Sliding doors and structural elements define the spaces and create subtle divisions.
The overall design preserves original features, such as the existing staircase and exposed joists, while introducing clean lines, open spaces, and contemporary finishes. The salvaged green glass-front cabinet restored from a junkyard aligns with the beams above and frames the kitchen hallway. On the second floor, two pairs of sliding glass doors can either close off or join rooms together. The upstairs is flooded with natural light from the skylights and expansive North glazing, highlighting the warmth of the refinished wood floors and exposed ceiling joists alike. Wooden accents create a cohesive connection between the old and new. The overall palette remains light and neutral, allowing the textures and materials of the home to take center stage.
