RG House is a project designed for a young person who appreciates design, art, modern-era furniture, and has a passion for wine. The client requested a contemporary home that breaks away from the traditional housing schemes commonly found in gated communities, where appearance often prevails over essence.
The house was designed as an apparently quiet dwelling that closes itself to the exterior but stands out through the strength of its volumetric composition. RG House seeks something beyond mere appearance. Through the use of natural materials, a neutral color palette, skylighting, and openings that frame views toward interior courtyards, the design aims to create an atmosphere of tranquility, elegance, and naturalness, where spatial quality prevails over superficial appearance.
A concrete screen framed by a cantilevered “U”-shaped volume becomes the protagonist of the project. The house is located within a gated community with material and spatial restrictions, on a party-wall lot measuring 8.5 meters wide and 20 meters deep. The design is developed as follows.
The house is organized around a lateral axis that runs across the site along its longest dimension. This axis contains the entrance area, the staircase, and a corridor, and it is responsible for connecting each of the spaces within the architectural program. Upon entering the house, the foyer sets the tone for circulation: one may continue toward the living room, go up to the second or third level, or move toward the entertainment room.
The house is developed on three levels. The first level includes the entrance, a full bathroom, TV room, living room, kitchen, dining room, and garden. The second level consists of the master bedroom with bathroom and walk-in closet, as well as two secondary bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The third level includes a service area, a terrace, and a study.
In this house, circulation toward the different program spaces is intended to become an experience of contemplation. The living room overlooking a side garden, a custom piece of furniture designed to store wine bottles (a request made by the client from the very beginning), and the double-height space with zenithal lighting make this the most important space of the project, bringing together all the elements originally requested by the client.
