Retree B&B was commissioned by a French surfer and builder that had more than 20 years living in Costa Rica. His requirements where to have spaces that were reflecting the beach life style.
The main design concept was to create a patio with the pool creating an oasis, a patio that protects the occupants from the outside wildness and strong winds. The living spaces are mainly outdoor covered areas to chill out and feel the tropical climate. The kitchen works as a food shack that had to be closed to protect food to be stolen by local raccoons at nighttime. The 4 bedrooms are located by the side of the asymmetrical pool getting the freshness of the water’s reflection.
Local materials where used such as teak wood for ceilings, furniture’s and decks, hand crafted concrete slabs for floors, … The roof ridges are slightly inclined to open the spaces toward the center in the search of natural light but at the same time to protect them from the strong winds and rains.
