Restoration Plaza, in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood, was created in 1975 by the nation’s first Community Development Corporation; The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. The Plaza was developed as a center of culture, local commerce, and community pride. It embodies the spirit of optimism and community that has led the way to the rebirth of our cities. With the realization of this plan underway - Restoration Plaza will become an open, accessible, and vibrant place, filled with people and bustling with activity. Its open spaces will be lined with fountains, benches, and plantings. Shops and galleries will be clearly visible from Fulton Street, a welcoming atmosphere inviting visitors to enter and linger there or explore the Plaza’s spaces and gardens. At night it will continue to be a vital space, busy with neighborhood residents and visitors attending performances and movies in the Plaza’s cultural centers. The Plaza will be surrounded with light from the Wall of Fame celebrating the founders of Restoration Plaza and Bedford Stuyvesant’s most influential citizens. In the garden, a Great Hall will be built to accommodate weddings, concerts, and community events.
