YEAR
2011
A leading Slovene restaurant and catering chain commissioned us to develop a new, larger-type restaurant in the DSU Palace Building in Ljubljana: a daytime restaurant in a building with 1500 public administration employees. Basic volume, installations and construction of the restaurant space were predefined with the building project, our task was to optimize the secondary space areas and create a new, distinctive restaurant ambient which would serve as a basis for further chain expansion as well as for renovations of existing restaurants. We developed a concept of a series of smaller ambients - guests mentally connect their size to a more intimate restaurant ambient where they like to linger. Ambients differ in colour tonality, lightness and light source type. We designed a table for two as modular element which can be combined into various table groups according to need. We are aware that this type of restaurant cannot have many fixed partitioning elements to provide intimacy, because it would lose the necessary flexibility. This brings about the danger of empty volume, which is eliminated with the stronger planar design of table bases and voluminous lighting elements.
