As an architectural unit of the historic ‘Bairro Azul’, this building was framed in a cohesive street profile and emblematic surroundings, so any intervention required a rehabilitation process according to the adjacent block.
In this context, and because the pre-existing formal and functional structure enabled that, most of the slabs, walls and accesses were preserved, with a reorganization of the fractions compared to the current model of living and inhabiting. In other words, there was an inversion of the residential areas, in which the social areas are orientated to 'Avenida Ressano Garcia' - living room, kitchen and office - and the private spaces for the backyard.
As part of the relevant interventions, the reconstruction of the emergency stairway was highlighted with a central reframing on the back façade, as well as the restoration of the traditional tile roof and some pieces with architectural value in this urban complex. In the hall area, there was a maintenance and conservation of pavements, coatings and decorative mouldings, to re-establish the interior ambience of former times.
