A 19,228 square meter plot has been earmarked for residential development in Abu Dhabi. The residential precinct includes a condominium complex with choices of studio 1-, 2- and 3- bed flats complemented by building amenities such as deck pools, retail, and basement parking. In designing the building complex, contextual development was an important criterion to relate the neighboring NYU to its residential function. Located on the opposite side of the road, the rectangular plot had to be linked to the NYU by prolonging NYU’s view corridors into the residential precinct.
The angular building layout comes in contrast to the porous façade of the building complex. Balconies and glass railings create a light character that disguises the building mass. The terraced building profile in tandem with the internal pathways interspersed by small plazas gives a convivial appearance – pedestrianized environments that promote a learning ambience for students and faculty.
