Located on the outskirts of Porto, on a typical narrow plot, the project restores continuity to a fragmented urban front that had remained interrupted for years following the demolition of an old ruin. The site is characterized by a wide diversity of styles, forms, and materials, resulting in a lack of architectural coherence along the street.
This building aims to offer a serene presence within the surrounding chaos.
One of the key principles of this project was to design a building that would avoid introducing another arbitrary mix of materials, thereby preventing an increase in the visual noise of the urban façade.
Thus, a contemporary design characterized by pure and precise lines, along with the white color typical of Portuguese architecture, was adopted as the solution for this intervention.
On the façade, the minimalist design of the composition is highlighted through the adopted solutions, with glass elements essentially present as voids subtracted from the architectural mass.
The building accommodates residential units and the interior is arranged over three floors, connected by a central staircase.
The front of the building, accessed through a vestibule, includes a garage space allocated to the residential unit on that floor. This unit further takes advantage of the depth of the lot, which provides a courtyard with a garden area and a 30 m² annex at the back.
The upper floors consist of studio apartments, where functional design and the efficient use of space through furniture solutions are prominent features.
