Social housing - a bath in the living room
The residential area formulates - due to the urban setting - on a small scale the transition between urban and rural areas: A microcosm is here emerged, which in its compactness provides the readable interpretation of a basic theme of European development since the 19th century. Therefore accompany three buildings the main circulation space of the quarter and, with their narrow sides a staggered facade front at the entrance of the area. This arrangement of buildings in Y-shape reduces the volume in the depth of the plot on a single building, so that the sequence of urban density and increase in green space acts naturally. Basis for each serious urban design is the road network as the basis for the order of a place. The easy architectural structure with load-bearing outer and middle walls and an efficient home automation system of "horizontal" collecting shafts provides maximum flexibility in configuring the apartments. Central idea: The apartment does not remain in the status of a rigid set of rules in the relations between people. The team of RLP Rüdiger Lainer + Partner rather developed a web of relationships that can be adapted to different usages apartment. Rooms can be switched on ("family reunions") or separated ("temporary jobs"). Even the sanitary area open up unusual perspectives when their sliding walls are withdrawn, as it is shown in the apartment type "Dolap". In this living model of the bath-room is a separate space layer, open or closed, between the central residential zone and the adjacent flexible zones. Bathing in the living room has become here in a subsidized home a reality.
In sharp contrast to the apartments for "planning affected" (Ottokar Uhl) living here means change: A change that emanates from the people and makes them back to decision-makers in their own four or more walls.
