For Massimo Vitali’s new private home in Lucca (Domus Vitali Klein) a 14th-century
deconsecrated church converted into an open space villa - Rada Markovic Lighting
Design Studio developed a project offering an optimal balance between lighting
efficiency and energy cost-effectiveness, using LED technology driven by a smart
lighting control system.
The project is the result of a creative process in which architecture and design worked together to make a
global renovation of this 14th-century deconsecrated church converted into an open space villa, by restoring
the old building, developing optimal balance between lighting efficiency and energy cost-effectiveness, using
LED technology driven by a smart lighting control system.
The interior intervention was designed with the primary goal of keeping the open space and not to divide it
into small rooms, (like the Italian law says when you purchase an ancient church); in order to keep clean
visual feeling of brightness of the environment.
Rada Markovic lighting design studio created a lighting solution to optimize visibility and interaction between
living and sleeping areas: architectural lighting and light art from the perspective of an inspirational
symbiosis.
The vertical illuminance defines and articulates spaces. It makes an essential contribution to the feeling
of brightness of the environment and supports the visual tasks on vertical surfaces.
The selection of compatible and existing interior ceiling and wall supports was considered in order to support
the minimal lighting design system, that’s almost invisible; (using the custom version of LED strips as the key
element as well for the constraints of the Italian Superintendence).
