La résidence LH est un projet de rénovation majeure d’une habitation secondaire située à St-Paulin en bordure d’une rivière. Les clients désiraient ajouter un étage afin de créer un espace pour la pratique du yoga avec vue sur le cours d’eau ainsi qu’une terrasse au toit pour y aménager un potager en bacs urbainculteurs, profitant de l’orientation favorable de la maison. Amateurs d’art, il était important pour eux de gagner de l’espace d’exposition pour leurs oeuvres ne pouvant être exposées dans la forme actuelle du bâtiment. Pour répondre à ces besoins, une extension latérale ainsi qu’un vestibule d’entrée se sont greffée à la résidence actuelle, couronnés d’un grand volume or afin de concrétiser l’idée de l’étage supplémentaire. Profitant maintenant d’une entrée centrale et à pallier, la résidence s’ouvre, dès les instants, sur toutes les étages, permettant aux visiteurs d’apprécier la grandeur du volume, mais également aux propriétaires d’y afficher leurs oeuvres de dimensions importantes. Le rez-de-chaussée, maintenant bonifié, s’ouvre sur la vue de la rivière tandis que le sous-sol sert maintenant de salle familiale ainsi que de rangement pour tous les articles de sport des clients. Pour se rendre à l’étage, on emprunte l’escalier monumental, créé de toute pièce pour la demeure, en acier perforé, peint de couleur or pour rappeler le geste à l’extérieur. À mi-parcours, une énorme fenêtre pleine hauteur baigne cet escalier de lumière, créant des jeux d’ombres sur les murs et donne accès à la toiture verte recouvrant le volume d’entrée. À l’étage, la circulation s’ouvre sur une grande porte patio donnant accès à la terrasse en toiture et la pièce au toit cathédrale cadre la vue vers le marais, à l’ouest de la rivière. Enfin, le revêtement existant de la résidence a entièrement été remplacé par un revêtement de cèdre brûlé donnant de la texture et cet aspect réfléchissant au bois.

The LH residence is a major renovation project for a second home located in St-Paulin on the banks of a river. The clients wanted to add a second floor to create a space for practicing yoga overlooking the river, as well as a roof terrace for an urban vegetable garden, taking advantage of the house's favorable orientation. As art lovers, it was important for them to gain exhibition space for their works, which could not be displayed in the building's current form. To meet these needs, a side extension and entrance vestibule were added to the existing residence, crowned by a large gold volume to realize the idea of the extra floor. Now with a central entrance and landing, the residence opens up to all floors, allowing visitors to appreciate the grandeur of the volume, but also allowing the owners to display their large-scale works of art. The first floor, now upgraded, opens onto the river view, while the basement is now used as a family room, as well as for storage of all customers' sporting goods.To reach the upper floor, one takes the monumental staircase, created from scratch for the residence, in perforated steel, painted gold to recall the gesture outside. Halfway up, an enormous full-height window bathes the staircase in light, creating a play of shadows on the walls and giving access to the green roof covering the entrance volume. Upstairs, the circulation opens onto a large patio door giving access to the roof terrace, and the cathedral-roofed room frames the view towards the marsh, west of the river. Finally, the residence's existing siding was entirely replaced with burnt cedar, giving the wood texture and reflectivity.
