The Residence Inn Calgary by Marriott is the biggest hotel of the chain in North America. Its 390 guest rooms are installed in a 35 stories tower built above the iconic Alberta Boot Company. Wanting to pay tribute to the legacy of the factory, old ad designs were used in the lobby while the guest rooms are adorned with boot stitch patterns artworks.
A monumental staircase swirls around the lobby and overpasses the lounge area, creating a path that reveals a 35 feet high bookcase, embedded with backlit onyx cubes that makes it shine like jewellery. Here and there on the different floors, overdimensioned ventilation grilles camouflage as works of art. The concept – Coming Back Home – allowed us to rethink the guest rooms and convert them in mini-studios that include a master bedroom-bathroom ensuite with a complete kitchen and dining area.
