The residence which evolves in two levels with a difference of three and a half meters (3,50) in altitude is adapted in the relief of the ground which is subjected to the less possible intervention.
The guest’s house is situated in the lower level. Two master bedrooms share a living room with a kitchenette. Views of branches and leaves of the olive trees spring up in the window frames. The microclimate of the exterior space is created by the neighbor olive grove.
The principal yard is situated on the roof of the guest house where the two storey high main residence stands. The concept of the synthesis is based on the creation of this plateau. The wide angle view ranges from the island of Naxos at the East to the inland hills and the sunset.
In the ground floor of the main residence the living space and the kitchen are situated in a linear axis. The building has a Bioclimatic structure. The air currents are passing through the window panels which are opposite to each other and create a continuous flow. The openings are perceived as cuts in the thick body of the walls of 60cm width. Some slantwise openings are framing selective views of the vegetation and the sea further away.
In the first floor it is situated a spacious bedroom with an office space and a bathroom. The 20 cm thickness of the roof insulation guaranties the coolness of the interior.
In terms of synthesis the building evolves in an escalating manner. The volume is curved from the exterior stairs that connect the plateau with the roof yards. The thick walls are following this escalation. A succession between inclined and vertical couples of walls deconstructs the logic of one static volume.
In the interior, the concrete roof and the cement floor are the two horizontal planes that delimit the evolution of the white crooked vertical surface of the walls. Niches in the walls and recessed lighting fixtures show the plasticity of the space. In the bathrooms the dialogue between the cement and the white is expressed in the wash-basin’s area.
