This project is informed by the way in which some of the best known proponents of Japanese architecture solve houses in small lots. The limited footprint of this house led to a monolithic approach. This dynamic volume increases in height towards the view and has most of its perimeter walls removed from the ground floor, following the incline of the stair. This results in a huge cantilever that attempts to maximize the flow of space on ground floor level: the living areas have three glazed sides without any visible support. The entry to the house is placed to its narrow rear side, next to the kitchen –thus the visitor upon entry is already orientated towards the view.
