The main goal of this project is the urban re-qualification of Hôpital de l'Hôtel Dieu located in Pont l'Abbé town center. Therefore, it becomes a connection space between the Toussaint Louverture car park on the South, the Hospital on the North and the overall city center .
All the constraints given, the challenge is to imagine the new 116 beds building dedicated to the elderly, for long-term care, improving hospitality, accommodation and care.
The building is divided into three different blocks, breaking the massive effect created by their height and compacity.
For both most external blocks that have similar activities, stone and zinc were used in different ways, creating a dialogue between function and architectural expression.
Stone was used as an answer to the Hospital wall, part of it being deleted to open the building on the city, whereas zinc brings vibration in the facades by its random treatment. Both are also punctuated by widely glazed bow- windows creating extra living space in the rooms.
Central volume is different due to his specific function and opens to the outside. The ground floor space is crossing from South to North. On the Northside, the dining rooms curtain wall located on the upper levels gives a view on the Hospital and its garden. On the South side, residents can enjoy living rooms opened on balconies.
The main activity room which can be used by community actors or associations is an angular volume, this effect being emphasized by using faceted zinc. The inside space is widely opened to the garden through its curtain walls.
