The Ecotron Île-de-France technical platform offers the research community a research center in experimental and predictive ecology.
The architectural treatment of the project corresponds to the expression of the wooden structure. Vertical uprights punctuate the facade, alternating opaque parts and windows. The facade cladding chosen is thick cladding (Douglas autoclave) whose visible part is openwork and whose pattern contrasts with the verticality of the uprights. Its thickness further guarantees the durability of the facade.
The joinery is made of aluminum with thermal break. Exterior blinds with adjustable slats are provided for all openings in the facade. They constitute a solar protection and allow the occultation of the premises.
A simple hollow in the volume and the use of dark cladding signal the location of the bicycle parking area and the glass facade indicating access to the building, protected by a simple awning. Hot water and heating for the building are provided by a wood boiler.
In this natural environment, preserved from urban nuisances, wood is used optimally. It minimizes the ecological footprint of the building and improves visual integration into its environment. It is a " low tech " building, at the service of researchers, sober and minimal in its expression, open and generous in its layout, its spatial organization and its luminosity.
