This fit-out represented an exceptional opportunity to express and reinforce the company’s brand, based on its culture of scientific innovation, energetic collaboration and corporate transparency. The branding was implemented to show that Ipsen was not a start-up and to differentiate itself as a longstanding, rooted company in a city of start-ups.
The design strategy was based on the creation of a vibrant front door and the establishment of a bright, open, colorful and uplifting work environment for some of the most sophisticated scientists in the field and their support teams. To showcase the technical aspect of their work, advanced computer stations are highlighted at the entry and views into the open offices and labs were created (noting particular limits due to the confidentiality of their work).
Though Ipsen is the smallest tenant in a fully occupied building, it is by far the most visible and recognizable.
The base building is very light and transparent with full height glass walls surrounding the atrium, white core functions and double height spaces. The design of the space extends that vocabulary, utilizing all planes as opportunities to brand the client: a sliding glass wall made of colored glass and graphics pertaining specifically to the client’s research and the associated goals. The complex series of open spaces are unified through a bright blue carpet, which is a nod to the blue in the client’s logo. Additionally, a reference to Ipsen’s founder is peppered throughout the facility, mostly in the form of artwork.
