Renovation and redesign of existing outdoor pool facility from the 1960s
Embedded between the banks of the Danube and the edge of the forest, the Sigmaringen open-air swimming pool is located on a beautiful hillside on the outskirts of the town. In order to make the facility fit for the future, the existing buildings and technology were brought up to date and the entire facility was upgraded. A number of attractions were also added to the pool programme - for more bathing fun and a higher quality of stay. In the process, the clear architecture of the existing facility was redesigned in a contemporary and attractive way without deeply interfering with the basic structure. The new concept incorporates characteristic elements from the existing structure, such as the striking exposed concrete roofs and walls made of exposed brickwork. Due to the hillside location, the building with changing rooms, sanitary facilities, catering and ancillary rooms extends over three levels. The extensive seating and sunbathing steps made of exposed concrete, which connect the building and the bathing level, offer a special quality of stay. The renovation also included the renewal of the pools and pool surroundings. An attractive wooden deck in the pool and other attractions enhance the non-swimmer and leisure pool. The new diving facility with diving pool, a new wide-wave slide and the 80-metre water slide from the existing pool provide bathing fun. In addition, there is a newly designed children's area that includes two pools with different water zones and depths.
