Located in a typical English village, this 1960s property had been left vacant and had fallen into severe disrepair prior to our clients acquiring it. ArchitectureLIVE's design brief was to recover the uplifting spirit of the original building character and combine this with new, contemporary open plan living.
Parts of the property which were beyond repair were replaced with new since clad extensions orientated in such a way to optimise daylight and views across the West Sussex countryside whilst maintaining privacy from neighbours.
Extensive internal alterations were made on the ground floor to create open-plan living, tying the kitchen, dining and living areas together with a beautifully polished concrete floor. Bathed in light from double height glazing, the entrance hallway features a lovingly restored and adapted original staircase as well as a new double-aspect fire place introducing new vistas across the house whilst introducing the desired zoning of the interior.
Upstairs, further reconfigurations delivered a 6-bedroom family home, including a new large ensuite bathroom for the master bedroom, a new family bathroom and a Juliette balcony integrated into one of the zinc bays.
Creating an energy efficient home was central to our client’s brief, therefore vast thermal improvements were made to the house with underfloor heating installed throughout the ground floor. The entire building envelope was upgraded with new glazing throughout, insulated render and floor slab and loft insulation. In the future, the new heating system will be supported by renewable energy which will also deliver clean, green energy to the next phase of this project, the pool house and garden design.
