Reworking of a classic row house in Haarlem. The trick was playing with the small space and utilise the space as open plan as possible. With this scheme we question surface use vs definition, the use defining what the surface is, and in doing so opening up more possibilities.
Due to the house not having any garden, we took the garden temporally indoors, creating a retractable roof, that opens up the whole rear of the house. With full height sliding doors that can separate the garden if needed, and neatly slot into the wall.
