With the intention of reinterpreting Pingtung, let’s start a perspectival rediscovery of this city.
The Pingtung City sits on the Pingtung flat land. It all started when the Han Chinese reclaimed the land during the 17th century and developed small settlements into the popular A-kauw City, overlapping stories of spaces as following generations extended the history of the city. However, in the past ten years, the population in the Pingtung City had decreased due to great migration toward other major cities; the city, previously crowned with the name “City of the Sun”, had lost its former glory.
Fortunately, in the recent two years, groups of young people started to return to their hometown to the city. They rejuvenated old spaces with new concepts of urban aesthetics and humanistic emotions, creating chemistry between people, spaces and objects that regenerated the local spirit. This special exhibition showcases seven shops initiated by these young people, inviting you to reinterpret this city that you thought you have already known, and to read the arising youth on the streets of the Pingtung City.
