The rehabilitation and development of existing lakes allows the creation of parks that respond to crucial ecological, social and urban needs of the citizens and the city of Benghazi. The Western Lake Park and El Keish Lake Park are developed as two parks different in character, yet complementary and organically connected through pedestrian, visual, and vegetation networks. The intention is to revitalize the adjacent neighborhoods, create a sense of place and reintroduce ecology, history and culture in urban life
Designed as an urban park and a landmark El Keish Lake creates a counterpoint to the Western Lake natural park; it emphasizes the cultural character of the city by offering a venue for cultural activities in a natural setting. The Amphitheater, designed in the tradition of Roman theaters is a venue for informal and formal outdoor performances. The Plaza, bound by grass terraces and designed around the waterworks and the fountain, is a flexible space that promotes social life and cultural activities.
