PLACE
Large
ground on the outskirts of a municipality Řež, in sparsely built-up
area mostly used for weekend relaxation only, creates a border
between the village and free landscape
The
existing structure of a house was created by layering in time. The
original core used to be a weekend house that was extended for
permanent housing and later also for business purposes.
ARCHITECTURAL
DESIGN
Our
cooperation with the builder started, when the house was already
fixed in place and volume – there was an original rebuilt weekend
house plus finished rough construction of a company building.
At
this point it became clear that this house created as a mixture of
different designs and unfortunate improvisation does not suit to
buliders needs.
In
the design we were in the first place looking for the minimum
necessary intervention required: how to re-design and simplify the
look of the building. We then also tried to optimise the indoor
functioning as far as possible (the innner wiring and plumbing was
already in place).
The
original mansard roof was finally - despite all our attempts of
modification - found not applicable. As well as the existing window
openings.
We
tried to soften the akward floor plan, to find a new roof shape and
good proportions. The main brick building was complemented by
optically lighter wooden „cells“ that extend the ground area and
first floor and connect the new building with the original house.
We
desired that the house was strong, clear and at the same time
harmonius with the surrounding nature, because the buliding is
visible from far away.
