This private commission gave Caliper Studio the opportunity to explore ideas related to form-making driven by computation and fabrication. Each of the 36 tiles is the result of a very specific set of operations related to two-dimensional bending. Though the initial operations were simple, the variety of resultant shapes was astounding. In order to deal with this amazing complexity borne of simplicity, computation techniques and algorithms were developed to analyze and predict tiling behaviors. As a test of the system, the anarchy of shapes was forced to contain itself within a simple rectangular boundary.
