Thessaloniki's Sailing Club (I.O.Θ.) had asked us to come up with an
initial idea proposal to incorporate the Club's surrounding site in to
the city's recently renovated waterfront.
The proposal consists of: a) The implementation of an axis that
connects directly the densely built urban fabric to the sea, b) an
educational Sailing theme park where the club's old boats will be
displayed, placed on wind rotating platforms, c) Upgrading the existing
green, d) large resting areas for pedestrians, e) unification of the
Club's existing buildings' facades (eg with timber louvers).
Critical to any intervention is the goal to preserve the sense of
place, tradition and history of the site (the Club has existed here
since 1932), but at the same time to 'open up' towards the city and the
public.
