RED, a leader in independent music distribution and artist development, wanted their New York headquarters to be a fun, relaxed workspace. Spacesmith designed an office that is flexible, dynamic, and collaborative, with a strong visual identity. The entry area features a guitar display and includes greeting, meeting, and eating spaces that can be separated with retractable corrugated steel doors. Also included is a music performance space within the reception area, accessible to the pantry, which can also be used for various events.
The overall plan was designed for maximum daylight and ease of communication utilizing an open benching system. Ductwork is left exposed, giving the space an industrial, loft-like feel. Private offices surround the floor and collaboration spaces are at the center. Spacesmith custom designed three breakout booths modelled after sound booths. These meeting pods are wrapped in steel and internally lined with brightly-colored sound studio foam. Dark tones are offset by vibrant graphics as well as orange, purple and gray felt panels.
