Red carpet
While thinking about changing the face of Pushkinsky
Cinema, we decided to go beyond the building itself. It has a strong connection
to the urban layout of Pushkinsky Square. Referring to one of the main symbols
of major film festivals - a red carpet, we decided to emphasize the
relationship between the building and the square. Our concept may be bold but
this is a place for very big events such as Moscow International Film Festival.
It’s also located on one of the main squares in the very center of Moscow.
That’s why we decided to propose strong architectural language for this place.
The uneven curtain on the front façade refers to film
festival stylistics as well. Moreover, it closes two urban walls created by big
trees on Pushkinsky Square. It also brings shade to overglazed south-west
elevation of the building, making the main hall more comfortable. It’s made of
irregular Corian shaped tiles supported by steel line structure.
The surface of Puhkinsky Square’s red carpet is made
from polymer supported on steel/concrete structure. The same red color is
continued inside the building, covering the walls and ceiling of the entrance
hall made of Corian panels. (Hot
color from Corian palette). The Red Carpet
is led on Pushkinsky Square, taking into consideration existing fountain and
trees. Places of interference are suitable for sitting. There is a parking space
below.
Side walls are clad in black (Nocturne color from Corian palette) Corian panels formed in
vertical stripes. This is our modern interpretation of the original façade
design.
Overall design has a big impact on Pushkinsky Square
but it respects and underlines urban relationship between the Cinema and the
Square.
