We designed the interior of a spacious 4-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath apartment in the Battery Park City neighborhood of Manhattan. Our goal was to enhance the lighting without compromising the height of the finished structural slab ceilings or exposing any conduit.
To achieve this, we utilized a step in the slab above, creating a singular narrow cove light along its edge. This cove light extends to the foyer, unifying the irregularly-shaped living areas with a continuous band of light.
The existing kitchen was opened up to the living area, and we incorporated an existing dropped ceiling in this area and also surrounded it with a band of light. These cove lights provide even illumination throughout the space, maintaining the ceiling height and offering a contemporary cohesive look.
