The building is located on a boulevard in the
historical center of Yaroslavl. Because of the absence of close
architectural surrounding the building has been conceived as an integrated part
of a pedestrian passage that could be transformed into an urban landscape. The whole building has been designed as an element of
recreational urban area. It does not interrupt the movement alongside the
boulevard but develops its scenario creating new directions: throughout itself, up and down and across it
connecting existing pedestrian ways.
In the winter the tilted roof serves for skiing. A flat part of the roof becomes a perfect
place for a café in the summer. A tilted
piece of the roof covered with hard pavement is quite popular among
skateboarders. The piece covered with grass serves as an amphitheatre for
concerts, lectures and other social events.
A ground level
contains a restaurant;
an underground one includes music club and bowling. The building is “pierced” through in a
vertical direction with a skylight that provides both ground and underground levels
with a natural daylight.
Using of natural
light, grass covered roof, standing apart ventilation shafts allows to reduce expenses for heating, air conditioning and electricity.
Mostly natural and
recycled materials have been applied for a façade and interior finishing.
