Record Studio Bar is located at the redeveloped winery site that was turned into a contemporary art centre. The venue boasts exposed beams inherited from the building’s industrial past. Such spaces are always fascinating to work with as they impose their own rhythm.
We’ve intentionally left the beams uncovered and highlighted their volumes with an open cell ceiling. Our goal in this project was to create a space with a unique genius loci and nods to famous movie scenes, music and artworks.
The interior features an open bar, a stage, a recording studio, an amphitheatre with a transformable seating area. The latter can be converted into a dance floor.
"The main concept of the design and layout was to create a space with a theatrical and cinematic ambiance. The stage with cinema style seating, small secret booths, abundant curtains, wooden panels, soffit lighting, and a large oval-shaped lighting fixture add a cinematic feel to the venue,” says Shushana Khachatrian, the founder of architecture and design STUDIO SHOO.
Colour plays a significant role in the interior inspired by Pedro Almodóvar’s films. Red became the accent colour, deep but not overwhelming. Other colours from Almodóvar's film palette, such as indigo and green, have a subtle accentuated presence. Warm grey walls act as a backdrop for the vibrant elements.
Vintage furniture plays a prominent role in the design, with most pieces specially restored for this project. Each item carries its own story, and when combined in one space, they create a unique energy.
The amphitheatre is a particularly interesting detail, designed as a vintage Spanish cinema seating, with plush red seats.
Other highlights of the interior include 1960s-style custom-made radiator grilles with circular perforations. An indigo blue communal table acts as a focal point for the venue.
The space is adorned with numerous curtains, adding a theatrical touch and leaving the audience wondering what lies behind the scenes. In the seating area, the curtains create the effect of separate booths, while their colour palette brings us to Pedro Almodóvar's films. Another noteworthy element is the suspended blue futuristic oval-shaped lamp. It zones the space and merges with the floor pattern thus creating an undisturbed composition.
