Ukraine Concert Hall is a flagship music hall in Kharkiv. In 1946-1947 an open musical theater for 1800 people with bandstand for 80 people was built in the Shevchenko garden. The authors of the project are architects N.F. Arefyev, E.A. Lyubomilova and A.S. Mayak. An architect A.M. Ginzburg performed acoustic justification of the project. For the first time in world practice, an asymmetrical scheme of a saddle-shaped shell was carried out, for the first time, a shell measuring 90 x 48 meters was created, covered with Ferro-cement slabs. This project has become a model project. At the time of design the building needed reconstruction. A small number of utility rooms, an outdated boiler room, lack of toilets in the building were only part of the problems.
Vizdome Space Office offered two options for renovation under the minimum and maximum budget.
Option 1 involves the construction of an underground floor with toilets and wardrobe. In addition, it has be built second floor in the administrative part. In place of the old boiler room and street toilet two-storey buildings connected by passages are built. The premises in these buildings are used for renting and organizing various activities for young people. In the transitions there are recreation. The highlight of this decision is the glass pavilion in the courtyard and the green wall there.
Option 2 does not imply a grandiose approach. Only the most necessary premises are completed. It is also supposed to build an underground floor with toilets, wardrobe and a superstructure of the second floor in the administrative part, as in the first variant. The highlight of this solution is an inclined glass volume with stairs and bay windows on V-shaped supports in lecture halls.
