The idea of this project has arisen in 2002. The Union of Architects of Russia declared competition on reconstruction and expansion of the office building. Private residence resuscitation in which the Union board, and also expansion of the areas by means of creation of new volume earlier settled down was assumed. The new building should reflect last achievements in the field of architectural thought and the building industry and be in harmony with a historical part of a complex.
On a backyard place there was the spacious hall which appeared in the centre of a complex and has become by a link between its new and historical parts. This space has also an exibition function. On a plan of architects, in a historical part of a building the original height of floors has been kept. In new, a commercial part has been put greatest possible levels. The average height of floors has turned out less. As a result already from the second level in a complex there was a difference of heights and in the central part was generated several interesting spaces.
It has been from the very beginning decided to make two parts of a complex independent from each other. They have the common evacuation stair, but in the rest are isolated, at everyone - own input. Similar division is supported also by volume decisions. A new building, growing over historical, covers its original with "a green wave" from patined copper which grows from the back wall smoothly flowing in a roof, and takes off on the main facade a wide peak-canopy. The copper inscription "the Union of architects of Russia" will decorate the bottom plane of a peak.
