Original project of the
cinema from 60's was strongly connected with green area of Pushkinsky
Square. After 50 years and all changes that were made to the square,
the architecture of the cinema couldn't react with an observer in a
proper way, although the project is still unique and interesting. We
found that the key idea to remake the exterior of the Pushkinsky
Cinema is not only to remake the facade of the building but also a
proper recreation of architectural connections between the square and
the cinema. In order to destroy two
main barriers - isolation and form degradation, we create a new green
public space in front of the entrance to the building. With this new
element the cinema and the square can act like a one public space. We
also create a new space under the main gallery of the cinema. In
order to open it for people who were walking along the street we
designed the space of interaction with a glass-facade interiors
visually opened for the outside. After creating new
attractive surrounding space around the Pushkinsky Cinema - with
simple manipulation we could extract the original shape as we find it
very attractive. We decided to cover the building with white DuPont
Corian panels and remove all unnecessary elements. We wanted the
Cinema to look pretty much similar to original, but as it was built
in XXIth century, so we designed a new type of media facade which is
using translucent characteristic of Corian to give the building an
opportunity to communicate with people. During a day the clean
white color of the facade contrasts with the green surroundings of
the Pushkinsky Square accenting the architecture. During a night the
facade can give numbers of effects: color changes, interactive
projections or artistic presentation.
