Images give us the architecture of possibility. During the nascent stage in a building's life, imagination and optimism materialize and transform our understanding of physical reality. What makes this possible are the signifiers, the "reality cues", that trigger our senses so that we may interpret and situate these abstract architectures within the context of the real world. Reality cues come in myriad forms: people, environments, textures, and atmospheres. They are pure context and designate direction, scale, time, perspective, even lifestyle. The studies presented in the images that follow are intended to scrutinize the nature of reality cues; they have moved beyond their supporting role and now influence architectural discourse.
